Biography

Mike is a Senior Regional Manager for the Undergraduate Business & Management Programme in the North, working with a team of Regional Managers and Programme Co-ordinators based across the Manchester, Belfast and Edinburgh offices, having joined The Open University Business School in November 2008, as a Regional Manager with responsibility for the East Midlands region.

Based in the Manchester regional office, he is also Module Team Chair for Working and learning: developing effective performance at work (BU130), and a module team member for Introduction to Retail management (B122).

Mike has been an Associate Lecturer with OUBS since 2001, initially on the Certificate in Management and more recently on Working and learning: developing effective performance at work (BU130).

Prior to joining The Open University full-time Mike had extensive experience in the retail motor industry (working for Honda, Volkswagen and Virgin Cars, as well as Automotive Skills, the Sector Skills Council for the retail motor industry), in addition to roles in petrol retailing, venture capital and a vocational training provider. He was also a Senior Lecturer at the Ashcroft International Business School at Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford - where his research, consultancy and teaching focussed on the retail sector, including conference papers and publications in the International Journal for Retail and Distribution Management and European Retail Digest.

Scholarship interests continue to include the retail and motor industries, work-based learning, as well as student retention and progression.
