NKI and The Open University (OU) have formed a partnership to promote the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and the Professional Certificate in Management qualifications in Norway from May 2013. In support of this new partnership, Norwegian alum Mark Sim, General Manager for Northern Europe at T.D. Williamson, kindly provided his comments on the OU MBA.

Mark: I chose the OU to study my MBA for several reasons really. The main driver was the flexibility it gave me. It suited my circumstances as I travelled a lot and my first child was less than a year old at the time. I had also received good feedback from several peers who had studied with the OU and had positive experiences. I was also funding myself at that stage, so price, although not the largest issue was still a factor.
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As someone who was never the world’s greatest studier, I surpassed my own expectations in how involved and dedicated I became. The course allowed that to happen, by keeping it interesting, current and challenging.
Getting the results of each exam was always an exciting period, especially the last module. However; I recall having a crisis of confidence as I was struggling with the first module after moving up from the Diploma. Attending the residential school not only got me over that, it made me more aware of other students having the same issues. It also made me feel like I was capable of this standard of education and was a big step for me.
It has had a positive effect on my career. Without a doubt it has opened doors to positions I would otherwise have been excluded from applying for. Not only that, the OU MBA gives you the confidence to speak up on a day to day basis, to influence decisions and to contribute at the highest levels of the organisation. It makes otherwise daunting projects less of an obstacle and more of a challenge.
I would reccomend the OU MBA to others without a shadow of a doubt, and in fact I already have done.
NKI will act as a representative in the market, concentrating on marketing and advertising the programme locally and providing immediate student support. Students will be directly registered with the OU, which will retain all responsibility for quality and for the provision and delivery of all content, including tuition.
The option to study part time and predominantly on-line is particularly attractive to the corporate sector, as students can continue to work, applying new skills and insights as soon as they are learned.
NKI offers flexible online education within a wide range of disciplines in partnership with recognized colleges and universities. Last year, NKI registered approximately 20,000 students.
