Don't change your life,
change your uni

With our help you can have it all
Tons of students transfer to us each year because we offer a brilliant way to get a top degree while avoiding student debt. And, better still, with The Open University you get to combine all the benefits of a top qualification with the comforts of home, and your first proper job if you choose to work at the same time.
Credit transfers
If you've already started a course at another university then you may be able to transfer any credits you've achieved over to your new course with us. Any assessed work you've done towards an HNC, HND, Foundation Degree, Diploma, or Honours degree can be counted towards your Open University degree.
When should I apply for my credit transfer?
You should start the ball rolling as soon as you've got a pretty good idea of which Open University course you want to do. This way, you'll be able to plan out your actual course of study knowing how much credit you can take forward.
How long does it take?
It can take around 8 weeks for a credit transfer claim to be assessed. That's why we always advise you to put in your claim well in advance of the closing date for Open University course registrations. If it is near the closing date, however, don't panic. Just make sure you reserve places on the course you're interested in while you wait for the outcome of your claim.
What's the maximum number of credits I could transfer?
That depends on what kind of qualification you want to do with us. The maximum number of credits that you can transfer for an honours degree is 240 and for a degree without honours, it's 200. Masters degrees are a little bit different again, it's usually more like 60 or 90 credits.
