Decisions, decisions, decisions

Over 570 inspiring ways to broaden your mind
The Open University offers over 570 inspiring courses in 13 subject areas, that could lead to one of over 250 qualifications. Impressive numbers, but what do they mean for you? Choice and flexibility. You can work towards a diploma, a certificate or an honours degree. Go down a defined Arts or Sciences route, or mix the two up a bit. No other university offers you as many ways to get where you want to go, or provides as much support to get you there.
Undergraduate diplomas and certificates
Our unique style of learning lets you build up to a diploma or certificate in hundreds of subjects bit by bit – an approach that's way more appealing than jumping in feet first for many of our students.
You can make up a diploma or certificate just by taking and passing a selected number of courses. Once you've done this, you can even carry on doing courses until you get all the way up to a degree.
Foundation degree or honours degree?
That depends on you! A foundation degree is a good bet if you're already working in an area that you love but you want to boost your career options and earning potential. It will allow you to combine work-based learning with study at home to get a qualification which is really valued by employers.
An honours degree is a step up from a foundation degree and is the ideal choice for you if you want to get a really in-depth understanding of a subject, and develop independent study and research skills. Because most honours degrees are very broad in what they cover, they will allow you to go into a whole range of professions afterwards.
