The Open University and the Royal College of Nursing have joined forces to encourage greater participation in education and training. Between us, we offer a wider range of courses and support in healthcare which could make a difference to your life, your career and the people you care for.

If you are interested in nursing, work in healthcare and would like to study part-time and keep your current salary, you could study to become a nurse with the OU.

Pre-registration nursing programme: A flexible, work-based open learning route leading to nurse registration and the Diploma of Higher Education (Nursing) in either adult nursing or mental health nursing. You need to be sponsored by your employer to study for this award and you can qualify as a nurse in four years while continuing to earn.

Since the qualifying route to registered nurse is solely through a degree in Wales, we are unable to offer the pre-registration nursing programme there.
