The Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) is vital if you plan to undertake postgraduate study to qualify as a chartered psychologist and become eligible for inclusion on the British Psychological Society's Register of Chartered Psychologists.

Our BSc Psychology will gain you GBC, provided that your class of degree is at lower second class (2:2) or better.

Look at our Recognition leaflet 3.1 (PDF, 788KB) to find out about the study you should do.

Following your degree you will need a considerable amount of experience as well as a postgraduate qualification in the field of psychology in which you are interested. For details of specialist study and how to become a chartered psychologist and a student member visit the BPS website.

If you already have a degree and want to ‘convert’ this to a qualification recognised by the BPS, you can find details of psychology conversion courses on the BPS website.

Visit the Study at the OU site for more details of degrees and related study offered by the OU in psychology.
