The OU Careers Advisory Service’s online forum on ‘How to make an impact with your CV’ is running from 2nd - 27th July 2012.   It is designed to help and support OU students through the intricacies of putting together an effective CV.  The forum will be moderated by professional careers advisers and will also utilise expertise and experience within the OU student community, by enabling the sharing of ideas, advice and best practice.

The forum is an excellent chance to address a whole range of CV-related topics such as:

  • Types of CV you can use
  • What employers are looking for on a CV
  • How to start a CV from scratch if you haven’t got one
  • What to put in a covering letter
  • How to disclose a disability in a covering letter

Whether you need to put together a CV from scratch or brush up an existing one, this is the forum for you.

The forum is on the Careers workspace - you’ll need your OU username and password to access it.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Talent Plus, run by Manchester Metropolitan University and Blue Orchid, is a scheme for graduates who are unemployed or who are not in the career they want.  It runs every 3 weeks in Manchester city centre for seven days and aims to offer practical advice on how to:

  • write the perfect CV
  • impress at an interview
  • use your existing experience, skills and interests to your best advantage
  • make better contacts and be more enterprising

As well as brushing up your job hunting skills, the initiative can offer graduates real work experience (paid or unpaid) in the career they want to work in.  The scheme has already found placements for 80% of its graduate attendees.

Placements last between 2 and 12 weeks and will not affect any benefits you are receiving.  As well as enhancing your CV, a placement may result in the offer of a full-time role.

To find out more at an Open Day or to register for the course go to the Talent Plus website.
