Third Sector Internships Scotland (TSIS) is a programme to help students find paid work experience in the Third Sector (ie, the voluntary and not-for-profit sector).

The programme is open to students from all Scottish Higher Education Institutions and is being delivered by Queen Margaret University, The Open University in Scotland and the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, with support from universities across Scotland and Student Volunteering Scotland.

17 new internships of varying lengths, types and locations are now being offered across Scotland.

A brand new pilot has been launched which offers a programme of support to unemployed graduates of 2011 in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to start up their own business.  It is funded by JobCentrePlus and facilitated by Aspiren for Communities (a Nottingham Social Enterprise). 

This is a 6 week programme with group sessions and face to face coaching

  • A practical, hands-on realistic course
  • Designed around your needs
  • Facilitated in a business environment
  • Run by real Entrepreneurs

The first session starts on 1st December at 10:00am until 1:00pm at NVAC, 7 Mansfield Road, Nottingham, NG1 3FB (opposite House of Frazer).

From Monday 14th November to Friday 9th December 2011, the OU Careers Advisory Service is running an online forum for OU Arts & Humanities students wanting to plan their next career steps. 

  • The forum is on the Careers Workspace (use your OU username and password).
  • You can post a question, provide help to other students or just come in and browse.
  • Three careers advisers will be moderating the forum.
  • We’ll be posting information from a number of Arts and Humanities related organisations.
  • The forum will be open for four weeks and then read-only for a further 12 months.

Questions raised previously have included:

  • What career options are available with an Arts & Humanities qualification?
  • How do I get into teaching?
  • How can I get work experience?
  • What are the benefits and financial implications of further study?
  • Is age a problem for career changers?

The NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme will be recruiting up to 150 posts in four specialisms - Finance, General Management, HR and Health Informatics.

Applications opened on 31st October 2011 and will close on 9th December 2011 at 10 a.m.
