Feminist Policy, Politics and Practice Forum

Friday, 15 March 2013, 14:30 - 17:00

Birkbeck Institute for Social Research, Room B03, 43 Gordon Square

This event will explore activism in these times of austerity

This event was established to share experiences of the struggle to bring about change in institutions, culture and social groups. It brings together women academics, activists and practitioners, policymakers and researchers, and is co-convened by Janet Newman (Open University) and Sasha Roseneil (Birkbeck).

As the momentum of retrenchment and austerity accelerates, where might  spaces of leverage, of politics, open up? This forum seeks to establish conversations between different generations around questions such as:

  • How are researchers and practitioners engaging with the impact of austerity?
  • How are feminists working to shape, adapt or appropriate policy agendas?
  • Do styles of activism differ across generations, and with what consequences?

The event will take the form of an open discussion, stimulated by two rounds of ‘provocations’ from participants around the above questions.
