Mitra Pariyar (Macquarie University, Sydney) will be speaking about his fieldwork with Nepali migrants in Aldershot.

Mitra Pariyar (Doctoral researcher at Macquarie University, Sydney) will be speaking about his fieldwork with Nepali migrants in Aldershot, a small town in Hampshire which has long served as the HQ of the British Army.

This event relates to two projects run by CRESC and CCIG at the Open University.

The first, Soldiers, Citizens and Security, was launched in 2008 to explore questions of citizenship, national identity and military service in different national contexts. The most recent event in this series was a roundtable on the connections between military work and the reproduction of racial hierarchy, entitled: ‘Britain’s postcolonial soldiers: the last gasp of empire or a very modern military?’ (March 15th 2013)

The second project studies the process of militarisation in everyday life. This is part of the Enactments cluster at CCIG.

All welcome.
