Exploring the British Diaspora

This project's aim is to establish a network of leading social scientists working on British emigration to diverse contexts such as Spain, France, Australia, Hong Kong, Dubai, Beijing and Thailand.
September 2013 - March 2014

Exploring the British Diaspora: Histories, Lives and Identities of the British Abroad is an ESRC Knowledge Exchange Project led by Daniel Conway.

The project, in collaboration with the Migration Museum Project (MMP), aims at establishing a network of leading social scientists, across disciplines such as Politics, Sociology, Geography and Anthropology, working on British emigration to diverse contexts such as Spain, France, Australia, Hong Kong, Dubai, Beijing and Thailand. It draws directly from Daniel Conway's British Academy Small Grant funded project (held in collaboration with Professor Pauline Leonard, University of Southampton) on the British in contemporary South Africa.

The partnership with the Migration Museum Project, a registered charity that aims to create a national museum of migration, will further the public conceptualisation and understanding of British emigration and the lives and influence of the British expatriates across the world, drawing directly from social science research.

The project started the 1 Sept 2013 and ends 31 March 2014.
