Making publics across time and space

Making publics across time and space
This project aims at building a new network of connections between researchers in the UK and North America around the issue of Publics and publicness.
August 2012 - December 2013

Making publics across time and space is an ESRC International Partnership and Networking Grant and is lead by John Clarke and Nick Mahony.

The aim of this project is to construct a new network of connections between researchers in the UK and North America who have been working on similar concerns but whose work has been separated by time and space.

The North American group (convened as a result of a 5-year SSHRC MCRI funded project called 'Making Publics') have focused on the making of publics in Europe in early modern history; while the UK group (assembled through CCIG's Publics Research Programme) has addressed contemporary practices of public making. The two groups nevertheless share some significant questions, analytical approaches and methods.
