The Physics Discipline members carry out world-leading research in a wide range of areas and within multi-disciplinary research groups:

•  Atomic, Molecular and Optical Research Group

•  The Physics Applied to Medicine

•  Plasma Science and Engineering

Discipline members in the Atomic, Molecular and Optical Research Group are in receipt of funding from EPSRC, NERC and STFC to develop novel research in radiation damage, electron molecule collisions and cold atoms. Members researching Physics Applied to Medicine focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder, Medical Physics and Statistical Physics in Biology and Medicine with substantial funding from research councils, charities and industry. Members researching Plasma Science and Engineering focus on the science and applications of ionized gases, or Technological Plasmas, and their diverse applications including light sources, large display televisions, medical instruments and a variety of material processing systems. Research is focussed on fundamental studies of plasmas and the development of measurement, monitoring and control techniques. Members have received substantial funding from EPSRC and international research councils for Plasma research.
