Title: A two-dimensional lattice of blue detuned atom traps for single atom qubits

Abstract:

In this talk I will present the most recent developments at UW-Madison in creation of scalable system for quantum information processing based on the use of neutral atoms.

We have developed and implemented a new approach to trapping single Cs atom qubits using an array of blue detuned Gaussian laser beams which overlap weakly.

A combination of diffractive and refractive optics is used to generate the beam array with high efficiency. The array created in this way is spatially and phase stable, and is suitable for magic trapping of ground and Rydberg states.
We have demonstrated trapping and quantum state control of single Cs atom qubits in the array.

I will discuss how quantum gates with Rydberg state mediated interactions will be implemented in this system.
