Aims and objectives

Our aim is to inform higher education policy. We do so by providing research, intelligence and analysis to policy makers at institutional, national and international levels. We also contribute to the international field of higher education policy research and disseminate information about higher education developments to the wider academic community.

Our focus is upon the relationship between higher education and society. This multi-faceted and sometimes contradictory relationship is under radical change in many parts of the world today. CHERI's research activities seek to better understand this change and to explore its consequences for both higher education and society.

Our three main objectives are:

to be an international leader in research in the field of higher education policy, especially with regard to higher education's relationship with other parts of society;
to work closely with national and international higher education policy bodies to support the formulation, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based policies;
to increase substantially the capacity, volume and reputation of the Centre's research activities through collaboration with the Centre for Research in Education and Educational Technology and other research groups within the Open University, and through national and international partnerships,
