Supported distance learning

To achieve this Level 3 Certificate you will work through a series of eight modules. Each module is structured with set activities to enable you to:

  • Gather evidence for the qualification
  • Receive guidance on how to present your evidence
  • Understand how to use the e-portfolio system

You will have access through VQ Learner Home to online resources and other Open University courses to help you develop knowledge and understanding for the qualification. You will also receive support from the VQAC Learner Support Team and your allocated assessor.

How long will it take?

When you register, you will see that your qualification has a stated end date. You can complete your qualification sooner than the end date if you are able to submit work regularly and at a good pace.

If you do not complete your registered qualification by the stated end date you may be able to apply for an extension which will incur additional fees.

Qualification content and how it is assessed

The mandatory credit in this award (15 credits) is included in the three mandatory units. The units in this award are split into learning outcomes with associated assessment criteria, for more information on the requirements...

The aim of the mandatory unit – Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment – requires you to know and understand the principles and practices that underpin assessment.

You will need to write a reflective account demonstrating your knowledge and understanding and complete a workbook that shows your research into assessment practice and associated legal requirements.

The aim of the second mandatory unit – Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment – is to assess your performance in assessing occupational competence in an individual’s work environment.

Observation of your practice in the workplace by your assessor is an essential assessment component of this qualification along with assessment of work products and evidence of questioning your learners.

Additional assessment methods that may be used could include witness testimonies and statements from learners.

The aim of the final mandatory unit – Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding – is to assess your performance in assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace.

This could be in workshops, classrooms or other training environments.  You will need to provide evidence for at least three of the following assessment methods:

  • Simulations
  • Skills tests
  • Oral and written questioning
  • Assignments
  • Projects
  • Case studies
  • Recognising prior learning

You will be assessed for this unit by observation of your assessment practice, examination of related work products, questioning and discussion.

You will need to show evidence of carrying out two assessments of two different learner’s skills, knowledge and understanding (four assessments in total).
