Access courses

The OU offers a range of Access modules that have been specially designed to help you find out what it’s like to study with The OU, get a taste of a subject area, develop your study skills, and build your confidence. They are perfect for new learners with little or no knowledge or experience of studying and use the same top-quality teaching materials and study support we’re famous for. They’re also fascinating and fun to do!
Our Access modules are available to students living in England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, or those who have a British Forces Post Office (BFPO) address.
The Access modules are:
 Special features of Access modules include:
  • Modules are 30 weeks
  • Presentations start in October and February
  • Personal tutor provides proactive one-to-one telephone support and feedback on 3 formative assignments
  • No need to travel anywhere - all studying can be done at home
  • No exam but an end-of-module Assessment (EMA)
  • All modules include study skills development and basic IT skills
