Widening Access and Success Strategy

Widening participation has always been a core value for The Open University, and is reflected in our open access policy. This commitment has been reaffirmed in recent years and is now encompassed in our institution-wide Widening Participation Strategy 2012-15. This sets out challenging targets along with responsibilities for activity across the University that will help us reach these targets. Co-ordination of the strategy is led by the Centre for Inclusion and Collaborative Partnerships.

Access Agreements

Any university or college that wants to charge higher tuition fees for home/EU undergraduates, and/or postgraduates on PGCE or initial teacher training courses, are required to have an access agreement approved by the Director of Fair Access.

An access agreement sets out a university or college’s fee limits and the access measures it intends to put in place e.g. outreach work and financial support. It is a technical, strategic document and so not the best place to look for information about what support you are entitled to or what fees you will be charged. If you’re looking for this kind of information, we suggest you look at the student finance pages on the website of the university or college you’re interested in.
