Accessibility Statement for Making a difference: working with children and young people (KE206)

Mode of study

All of this module’s study materials are available online and are composed of pages of text with images. They also include links to external resources, online asynchronous forums and online tutorial rooms. Printed materials are provided for some module content. There is extensive audio and visual material between 2 and 10 minutes long (all with transcripts and subtitles).

Tuition strategy

This module includes online tutorials. Although not compulsory, attendance at tutorials will help you consolidate your learning and assessment preparation.

Working with others

At particular points in the module you will be required to work with other students. This includes contributing to your Tutor Group Forum discussions. This is a core component of one of the Tutor-Marked-Assignment and you will be assessed on the contributions that you make. There is accessibility guidance for this element. If you have any concerns about this please contact us as soon as possible.

Diagrams and other visual content

The study materials contain some diagrams, graphs and photographs. Figure descriptions are provided for all diagrams and graphs.

Finding information

You may be required to search for, and make use of, third party material online. For your TMAs and your End-of-Module assignment.

Specialist reading material

The module focuses on the wellbeing of children and young people, and so the content also looks at issues that are likely to negatively affect wellbeing. This means that there is some module content of a challenging nature. For example there are activities which include reference to eating disorders, compulsory detention under the mental health act, family relationships, and child abuse. As far as possible, activities that some may find distressing have a note highlighting this in advance so you can make a decision about how best to engage with the material or if necessary decide to opt out of that particular activity. The Help Centre includes additional guidance such as external sources of support and information on wellbeing and mindfulness

Assessment

This module has Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs), which must be submitted online via the OU electronic TMA system, and an End-of-Module Assessment submitted online.

Feedback

You will receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.

Schedule

All University modules are structured according to a set timetable and you will need time-management skills to keep your studies on track. You will be supported in developing these skills.
