Part-Time Tuition fee loans for students in England

Part-Time Tuition Fee Loans (also known as student loans) are the most popular way to pay for study. Over 80% of our new students in England pay this way.

How to apply for your loan

Once you've registered on your chosen qualification, follow our step-by-step guide to get your loan in place before your module starts:

Enrol on your first module

  • Visit StudentHome to enrol on your first module(s).
  • Choose ‘Part-Time Tuition Fee Loan’ as your preferred payment option.

Register with Student Finance England (SFE)

  • Register with SFE online as soon as possible.
  • They’ll give you a Customer Reference Number (CRN), which you’ll need during your OU registration.

Start the loan application process

  • Take care to apply for the right year of loan support. This depends on the start date of your qualification. If you're unsure, log on to your StudentHome account to check the details.
  • StudentHome contains helpful information on completing your application.

Complete your OU enrolment

  • Visit StudentHome to complete your module registration using your SFE CRN.
  • When you give us your CRN, you're agreeing to pay your fees by loan, and you'll be registered on your course, subject to your loan being fully approved.
