H806 looks at issues surrounding elearning.
There are four modules: The connected learner, learning in the connected organisation, connected learning in practice and learning in the connected economy.
Here are some points about the course:
i) It is based around a learning objects approach. If you don't know what this is, don't worry, we talk about it in the course and you create your own. The idea is that a learning object is a stand-alone reusable chunk of learning material. This approach can be quite flexible and we actively encourage students to develop their own study strategy during the course.
ii) We like to explore new technologies, to look at their potential as educational tools. So you will use instant messaging, blogs and wikis in H806.
iii) We cover a range of topics, and because of the more flexible learning object approach you may choose to focus on one area more than another. The sort of topics we look at are corporate universities, educational technology standards, learning objects and reuse, new technologies, global e-learning issues, etc.
iv) The final assessment is based around a portfolio - you collect together eight pieces of evidence from the material you have studied during the course, and have to complete an overarching essay that draws on these, so there is quite a strong element of synthesis and making links at the end.
