Everything you'll need for study

You'll receive the study materials you need, either online or through the post, and access to an online learning environment to study wherever, and whenever, suits you.

Our resources are designed for distance learning, so you won't need to travel to a campus for lectures and other study activities. You'll also have access to our library for online resources, and a computing helpdesk for technical support.

Online resources

Once you register, you'll gain access to StudentHome, the gateway to your OU study. From here you'll access your module website where you'll find most of your course content.

  • Digital resources including recorded lectures, broadcasts, podcasts and interactive quizzes.
  • A study planner for your week-by-week content and deadlines.
  • Online tutorial rooms where you can participate in a virtual classroom led by a tutor, with breakout rooms for activities and discussions.
  • Online forums to discuss different topics with your tutor and fellow students.

The learning materials are first-class and so portable. I often took them to work with me, studying during quiet periods.

Through the post

For most courses you'll receive study materials delivered to your door. What you'll receive depends on the module(s) you're studying.

Study materials are:

  • provided in a range of formats including books, DVDs, memory sticks and audio CDs
  • included in your module fees so there's no hidden cost
  • yours to keep so you can write notes in them and highlight sections as you study.

OU library

The online library provides worldwide access to trusted, quality online resources to support your studies.

  • World class online resources selected by specialists in each subject.
  • Journals, magazines, academic books, newspapers, dictionaries and encyclopedias.
  • Library helpdesk available seven days a week with a 24/7 chat service.
  • Other university libraries in the UK and Ireland.

The online OU library is absolutely brilliant and you can access it all from home on your computer.
