Professional Doctorate in Education (EdD)

Text:

Interested in part-time doctoral research?

The Doctorate in Education (EdD) programme is an innovative part-time research degree programme.  It is characterised by a professional orientation and a clearly defined structure, which allows completion in 3.5 years.

A growing number of professionals regard this style of doctoral programme as being a more appropriate vehicle for further development than the traditional PhD, due to the applied nature of the research undertaken.

Successful candidates are awarded the degree of Doctor of Education and are entitled to use the title ‘Dr’.

A recent Guardian article interviewed one of our researchers

“I then came across the Open University (OU) EdD programme that described exactly what I wanted to do: to combine research and practice in a short programme (three and a half years) that would have a real impact on my teaching practice and turn me into a credible researcher. And I haven't looked back since.”

This year applications close 30th November 2012.

Contact the research school by phone +44(0)1908 654882 or 659616 to confirm if you are eligible to apply.  If you pass the eligibility check, the research school will email an application form and a proposal pack to you.
