Introduction:
The Digital Education Enhancement Project (DEEP) is a research and development programme investigating the use of new information and communications technology (ICT) for teaching and learning. It works in schools serving disadvantaged communities in different parts of the world.
This presentation was given at the European Conference on Information Technologies in Education and Citizenship: A Critical Insight, Barcelona, 26 June 2002. It sets out the context in which the DEEP project was originally developed and conceptualised.
