The role of new technologies

We want to suggest that we need to explore more fundamentally a social justice perspective when we think about technology. We critique the belief, dominant in many policy circles that some forms of human development and progress are a luxury that only rich countries can afford.
We know that human freedom requires contemporary knowledge and contemporary educational skills, denying the opportunities of these to any group is contrary to the basic conditions of such freedom. The question, we would argue, is not whether or not to use the new forms of communication but rather how and how quickly.
So we want in the central part of our presentation to look at four examples of how teachers and technology have come together to open forms of discourse and new models of teacher development previously beyond reach.
