If you have been awarded a DSA and have not already had funding approved to support you at residential school, you will need to contact the DSA Office to ask for funding for the study related support you need.
As long as you have made the DSA Office aware that you are going to attend a residential school and that you have had study related support approved, these costs are charged directly to your DSA award by the OU.
We can then make the appropriate award for support and will send you a supplementary award letter for this and also a claim form for your helper to complete. This form should be completed by the non-medical helper claiming payment for supporting you at residential school.
Before you leave the residential school, please ensure that the Residential School Administrator (or their nominee) signs the form to confirm attendance. Failure to do this could result in the DSA Office being unable to pay the helper.
DSA funds can only support compulsory study related sessions. They cannot be used for anything else such as optional or social events, or for personal care whilst at residential school.
Three key points to ensure you are reimbursed:
1. Items not approved in your award letter will not be reimbursed
2. You must provide a receipt or itemised bill for every item claimed.
3. Incorrect or incomplete claims will take longer to process if further information is required resulting in delays in reimbursement.
Take part in the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) eligibility quiz to find out if you are eligible for funding. It should take you less than three minutes to complete.
