At residential school your studies can involve a number of different activities, for example

  • writing notes and making presentations
  • taking part in activities, practical work or field trips
  • taking part in discussions.

Some of these might be quite demanding for you, so think about what you need help with and the support you want to ask for. For example, there is a range of equipment for residential school that can be loaned for short-term use.

If you have registered for a course or are already a registered OU student you can use Facilities Request Form 2 (FRF2) to tell us about

  • the ways in which you would like support for your studies or
  • changes to services you have already requested.

Three points to consider

How much information do I need to give?

We will ask you to tell us

  • your OUCU and password, or Personal Identifier number, and other details such as your date of birth
  • briefly about your disability, illness or impairment
  • whether you have particular requirements for residential school arrangements, such as particular accommodation needs or an assistant
  • that you agree to our Data Protection Policy.

You will also have the chance to note any other comments or concerns you have.

What happens when I submit my request form?

We forward your form to your regional or national centre, and they then contact you to confirm your requirements. The University will do its best to provide services that enable you to study effectively but we can't guarantee that all the services and facilities you ask for will be available or approved.

If you submit your request online you will be given a reference number. Please use it when contacting your regional or national centre with queries.

What if I change my mind?

If you change your mind after you have submitted your request form, or if your circumstances change, you can contact us by telephone, post, email or the online request form.

Please remember that there is always a slight delay in your record being updated. If you wish to make changes before your previous requests have been processed and authorised, please do so via email or telephone so that we can avoid working with out-of-date information.

When in doubt, please contact your regional or national centre.

Choose how to submit your Facility Request Form (FRF2).

  1. Complete your FRF2 request online. You will need your Open University Computer Username (OUCU) or Personal Identifier number.
  2. Discuss your requirements with an adviser at your regional or national centre and request a printed copy of the form.

If you are not sure that you are ready to submit the form, contact our Student Registration & Enquiry Service and talk to one of our advisers.

You will need to provide written evidence to support your request.

We will send you a copy of the booklet Meeting your needs at residential school when we receive your request, or you can download a copy. It explains the services we offer.

If you are eligible for a DSA, The Open University will only provide study support that cannot be provided by a DSA. Take the quiz to see if you are eligible.
