Tell us what you need

Make sure you have read through the four step checklist on Decide what you need before you fill in a request form for general services and equipment. This will help you to make the choices appropriate to your individual needs.

Once you have registered for a qualification or module, or if you are already a registered OU student, you can complete the online request form for general services and equipment below and tell us about

  • the support you would like for your studies
  • changes to your situation and the services you have already requested.

Choose how to submit your request form for general services and equipment

  1. Complete your request online.
  2. Download and complete a copy of the request form (716KB, RTF) to send, electronically or in print, to your regional or national centre.
  3. Download a copy of the request form (79KB, PDF) to print, complete and return to your regional or national centre.
  4. Discuss your requirements with an adviser at your regional or national centre.

How much information do I need to give?

We will ask you to tell us

Why do I need to provide this information?

What happens when I submit my form?

We forward your form to your regional or national centre, who contact you to confirm your requirements. The University will do its best to provide services that enable you to study effectively but we can't guarantee that all the services and facilities you ask for will be available or approved.

If you submit your request online, you will be given a reference number. Please use it when contacting your regional or national centre with queries.

Forms will normally be processed within 15 working days, but applications from students who are about to start their study will be prioritised over those starting later.

What if I change my mind?

If you change your mind after you have submitted your form, or if your circumstances change, you can re-submit the online request form, or contact us by email, telephone or post.

Please remember that there is always a slight delay in your record being updated. If you wish to make changes before your previous requests have been processed and authorised, please do so via email or telephone so that we can avoid working with out-of-date information.

If in doubt, please contact your regional or national centre.

If you are not sure that you are ready to submit the form, contact our Student Registration & Enquiry Service and talk to one of our advisers.

If you are eligible for a Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA), The Open University will only provide study support that cannot be provided by a DSA. Take the DSA eligibility quiz to see if you are eligible.
