A Virtual Microscope Through Time

Stills Camera

We used a Nikon D7000 stills camera with a range of different lenses for most of our object photography. More here.

The camera was used in a studio with daylight-corrected lights and was tethered to an iMac computer. Photographs were taken using Nikon Camera Control Pro software.

Object movie creation made use of a LEGO robot which controlled a purpose-built motorised stage. The robot also talked to the Camera Control Pro software and once set up could be left unattended while a minimum of 72 photographs were taken (at 5° intervals for a full 360° rotation).

All photographs were processed in Adobe Photoshop and the object movie stills were further processed using in-house developed routines.
