Gwyneth Owen-Jackson

Profile

I have a background in business and came into teaching as a 'mature student'. I have worked in a range of secondary schools in Yorkshire and Suffolk and have taught across the Design & Technology areas. I have undertaken consultancy work with QCA and been an external examiner for a number of institutions.  I am a member of DATA and have been a member of their Council of Management, Chair of the ITE Advisory Group and editor of the SRN Resources.

Teaching Interests

I have taught design & technology in secondary schools, across a range of schools and focus areas.  I am currently Subject Leader for the PGCE Design & Technology at the OU.  I have previously led the Secondary ITE programmes at another university, and have been programme leader for the EdD at the OU. 

Research Interests

Primary education and teacher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Routes in secondary design & technology teaching and D&T teachers' professional identities.

 

Current Research

Currently editing a new design and technology textbook 'Debates in Design and Technology Education'

Researching routes into D&T teaching and the effect on teachers' professional identities

Collaborating with Marion Rutland, University of Roehampton, on research into the food technology curriculum in England
