Prithvi Shrestha currently works as a lecturer in English Language Teaching at OpenELT, Department of Languages, Faculty of Education and Language Studies, The Open University, UK. He recently wrote an academic literacy development course called Professional Communication Skills for business studies students with two other colleagues. Currently, as a member of OpenELT, he is involved in a DFID funded project in Bangladesh called English in Action. It is an English language teacher training project with ICT interventions. Together with other project team members, Prithvi is responsible for teacher professional development materials both for distance and face-to-face environments. With two other OpenELT colleagues, he led on the development of English language learning materials for English teachers (EL4T) from 2010 - 2011. He also extensively contributed to research, monitoring and evaluation of the project.
Prior to taking up the job in the Open University in 2006, he worked in various colleges and university in London including Goldsmiths College, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and the School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine delivering ESOL and academic literacy courses to both international and home students.
From 2005 to 2007, Prithvi was involved in a British Council sponsored teacher training project in the Palestinian Territories via video conferences. The sessions he has delivered include using stories with young learners (for primary school teachers) and e-learning and ELT materials design (for teacher educators). In 2007, with two other colleagues, he was nominated for the ELT Innovation Award 2007 regarding the teacher training package developed for English language teachers in the Palestinian Territories. Prithvi worked as a teacher educator at regional and national levels in various parts of Nepal while working as an English language teacher between the late 1980s and 2002. ’,
He has been serving as a Co-Editor of Journal of Professional and Academic English, the journal of IATEFL ESP SIG, since 2007.
