What were they looking for?

The UK’s largest Mental Health Trust wanted us to design and create a leadership development programme for its team leaders. They were keen that, as part of the development consultancy process, we should:

• Review existing learning resources from the Trust, the OU and other providers to establish their potential relevance
• Design appropriate new learning resources
• Incorporate work-based assessment strategies into the programme
• Propose how the programme might be accredited
• Suggest the detailed curriculum
• Market the proposal at a validation event.
 

How did we address their requirements?

Using our open learning and leadership development consultancy services, we helped the Trust to develop a 2-year accredited leadership development programme. We licensed them to use specified and relevant OU course materials within the named NHCT leadership courses for a fixed period. 

Then, guided by OU Business School, the Trust applied for accreditation for their programme through Open University Validation Services.
 

Learning outcomes

So far the programme has been successfully delivered to over 500 team leaders within the Trust.
