As a University, we are always looking to improve the representation, progression and retention of staff and students. The work will contribute to our existing Equality Scheme & Objectives, which are an important focus for the OU (for more details follow link http://www.open.ac.uk/equality-diversity/content/equality-scheme-objectives ).
In particular we are working hard to close the degree awarding gap for ethnic minority and disabled students, compared to white and non-disabled students. The REC project will help us achieve this.
To make this all possible, REC Steering Group (RECSG) has been set up; members were invited based on their expertise and position, so it is representative of different categories of staff and students across the University structure. The RECSG will lead on the analysis of student and staff data and University procedures and will create and oversee the implementation of an action plan for addressing the barriers identified.
The REC Steering Group members are as follows: Devendra Kodwani (chair), Anne Wesemann, Aravinda Guntupalli, Barbara Poniatowska, Bart Rientes, Carolyn Buckby, Cherry Day, Clem Herman, David Knight, Graham Harvey, Jenny Douglas, Kesi Mahendran, Liz Marr, Mustafa Ali, Samantha Wright, Sas Amoah, Simone Arthur, Parvati Raghuram and Ursula Stickler.
