At its recent awards ceremony, The Bridges Programmes, a unique scheme for refugees and asylum seekers in Glasgow, named the OU as ‘Education and Trainer of the Year 2015’.
The OU has a partnership with Bridges Programmes and delivers Access modules and free online learning routes to its clients, to help them improve their spoken and written English language skills and to develop educational and employability skills. Access modules are an ideal starting point for people with little or no experience of university-level study who wish to develop the confidence and skills to start studying.
The Bridges Programmes supports refugees, asylum seekers, migrants, and anyone for whom English is a second language, living in Glasgow. It works with employers and partners to help its clients into work, education or further training.
Through its partnership with the OU, Bridges clients are able to access face-to-face information, advice, guidance and careers advice from the OU, as well as study group sessions.
