The LGBT Foundation article - A Reflection on LGBT Suicide

People of any sexual orientation and/or gender identity can be affected by suicidal intent, for a wide range of reasons, but unfortunately LGBT people are twice more likely to end their own lives.

Join us for Refugee Week in June

The Open University is marking international Refugee Week 2018 (18-24 June) with a range of free events in Milton Keynes and London. The events include an art exhibition, talks and a film showing focused on the real experiences of people who have been forced to leave their country to find safety.

Refugee Week takes place every year across the world. In the UK, the week sees a nationwide programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK.

The Department of Physical Sciences receives Athena SWAN Silver award

The Department of Physical Sciences (DPS) has received an Athena SWAN Silver award in recognition of its support for Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine).  DPS is the first department in the University to be awarded the Silver award recognising its activities towards reducing inequalities in research, teaching and day-to-day department processes.

The OU achieves Bronze award for Disability Standard

We are delighted to announce that The Open University was evaluated by the Business Disability Forum (BDF) and achieved a Bronze status in the Disability Standard.

The OU is now one of only two UK universities that holds Disability Standard status. The Disability Standard report stated that, "For a first submission this is outstanding. The OU should be immensely proud of its achievement as many organisations who achieve Bronze have been working closely with the BDF for many years".

Launch of OU's Equality Scheme 2016-2020

The Open University's new Equality Scheme was officially launched by the Vice-Chancellor Peter Horrocks at  an event in the Berrill Lecture Theatre on Tuesday 19 April. There was a distinguished list of speakers including David Ruebain, Chief Executive of The Equality Challenge Unit,  Sharon Pegg, Head of Diversity, The Co-operative,  Victoria Pearson, Senior Lecturer at The OU and one of the leads on the submission for Juno Champion status and Paul Sesay, Founder of the National Diversity Awards.

Refugees’ scheme names OU as 'Education and Trainer of the Year'

At its recent awards ceremony, The Bridges Programmes, a unique scheme for refugees and asylum seekers in Glasgow, named the OU as ‘Education and Trainer of the Year 2015’.
