Case Studies


One major outcome of the project was the generation of Case Studies.

At The Open University and Sheffield Hallam University, the FAST project aimed to address the 11 conditions of effective formative assessment by implementing changes to assessment design on their Science courses, and to study the impact of these changes on students’ responses and study patterns. From these activities, nine case studies were generated.

To further support the generation of case studies, the FAST project provided funding for development projects from other institutions; to analyse and, if appropriate, redesign their formative assessment processes. A further 14 case studies were generated. These took one of two approaches:
