Huddersfield People First: our experiences of self-advocacy

Dan Goodley

In this session members of Huddersfield People First will talk about their experiences as a group which has been running for 16 years. As experienced members of the self-advocacy movement, members have many strong opinions on the ways in which the movement has developed. A number of pressing concerns will be tackled including:

  1. The need to use the term 'learning difficulties'.
  2. Our experiences of trying to change services.
  3. What it means to be in a self-advocacy group.
  4. Our experiences of tackling discrimination and other people's prejudices.

The group will also offer a question and answer slot.
