Heather Cadbury

Setting for the story

  • John Langdon-Down wanted to improve institutional life.
  • He also had a passion for the arts, in particular the theatre.
  • A family concern for the wealthy - taken over by the NHS.
  • Wolfgang Stange, dancer and choreographer wanted to share his love of dance with others.

Wolfgang's philosophy

Providing inspiration from the theatre, music and materials. Using material from other cultures and countries. Students to dance for themselves.

  • Learning control.
  • Communicating ideas.
  • Interpreting feelings.
  • Making choices.

Problems of working in an institution

  • Basic needs of his students.
  • Attitudes of staff.
  • Management pettiness.

A performance - The Friendship Journey
