St Lawrence's staff then and now

Mabel Cooper, Gloria Ferris and Jane Abraham

Mabel Cooper and Gloria Ferris both spent their early adulthood in St Lawrence’s Hospital. They have clear memories of the nursing staff who worked with them and other patients.

In this paper Mabel wants to share her memories of two nurses who she feels did a good job and who she remembers with love. She is also doing some oral history research herself with one of her fellow patients who has bad memories of the nursing staff. She wants to share this contrasting view of the staff.

Gloria wants to share memories of the work she did along side the staff working with those with profound and multiple learning disabilities in the ward that her friend Muriel lived on. She is also doing some research by interviewing one of the nurses who used to work on this ward and who is now manager of the care home that Muriel moved to after the hospital closed.

To give an up to date picture, we have also done some work with other people with learning disabilities finding out what they want their support staff now to be like. We will share these findings too.
