• Activity 7/Resource 1 - Songs of Resistance PowerPoint with embedded audio files (if you have any guitar players in the group, ask them to bring their instruments)

Activity

1. Explain that students are going to hear how patients find ways to resist the institution by making up songs.
2. Show the PowerPoint, which introduces the singers and includes audio clips of the songs, the words of the songs and simple musical notation.
3. Then play the sound clips; encourage students to join in – show the lyrics on the PowerPoint slides.
4. Set students the task of composing one verse to add to one of the songs they have heard.

Ideas for follow up

Musicians to work with two or three others to compose their own song of resistance.
