Empowerment and Disability: Informal learning through advocacy and self advocacy
This Grundtvig Learning Partnership project involved the Open University with partners at three European Universities: the University of Gent, the University of Iceland and Trinity College Dublin. In England the Open University Faculty of Health & Social Care worked on the project with two People First groups that are run and controlled by people with learning difficulties: Carlisle People First and Central England People First. In Belgium, the University of Ghent works closely with an independent self advocacy organisation called Our New Future. The University of Iceland works with a women's group and a parents' group for people with learning difficulties, and Trinity College Dublin is working alongside a group of students from an inclusive programme in the university for people with learning difficulties.
