Twenty-one years of working together: a history of Central England People First and our friends
Central England People First
We are Central England People First an organisation run by, and for, people with learning difficulties. We have been running since 1990 but not always with the same name or in the same place.
In our paper we want to tell you about our Heritage Lottery Funded project that is helping us to record our 21 year history. We think that our organisation has been an important network for people with learning difficulties in our area. We have faced many difficulties in keeping our organisation going. A few years ago we had to close our local groups and just become a one-office based organisation. This meant it became difficult for a lot of our members to keep attending. We also wanted to tell you about how important our friends in other organisations have been in keeping us running and how they have helped us do all of the important work that we have done to make sure that people with learning difficulties are not left out.
We would like to use some of the interviews that we are doing with our friends and members to help us tell our story. These will either be audio interviews or on video.
