'We told each other secrets when the lights went off'
Stories from Craig Phadraig Hospital and People First

Karrie Marshall

This presentation has two parts … the first being a collection of memories gathered during a comprehensive Story Project in 2009, from people who lived in Craig Phadraig hospital in the 1970s and 80s. They recall their friends, and some of the things they did together. The secrets of the title were about who had kissed whom, and who had had the dreaded paraldehyde injection. There was a strong sense of solidarity and family, which is also part of the wider Highland culture.

Following on from the project, we meet up with some of the friends who attend groups such as 'People First' and find out how they have maintained friendships and links.
