Dr Martin Robb

Profile

Martin Robb is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health and Social Care, working mainly in the Children and Young People area. He has published articles and book chapters on a wide range of topics, with a recent focus on issues of fatherhood, young masculinity and childcare. He is currently writing a book on youth policy and practice, to be published by Palgrave as part of a series on inter-agency working in health and social care. Before joining the Open University he worked in informal and community education projects with adults and young people.

  • Advanced Diploma in Child Development, The Open University
  • M.Sc. in Psychology, The Open University

 

 

Teaching interests

Current and recent teaching responsibilities include:

  • K802 Critical Practice in Work with Children and Young People (provisional title; core course in planned Masters in Childhood and Youth Studies): course team chair
  • KE308 Youth: Perspectives and Practice: course team co-chair
  • K309 Communication in Health and Social Care: course team chair
  • K204 Working with Children and Families: course author

Current and recent postgraduate supervision includes:

  • Sharon Tourish (evaluation of parenting programmes, co-funded by Race Equality Foundation)
  • Jane Reeves (socially excluded young fathers)

 

Research interests

  • Reading, discourse and learning (funded by Institute of Educational Technology Research Committee, 1996)
  • Project to assess the training needs of people working with parents and primary carers (with Parenting Education and Support Forum, funded by Home Office, 1999-2000)
  • Men, masculinities and childcare (funded by Faculty of Health and Social Care Research Committee, 1998)
  • Fatherhood and identity (funded by Faculty of Health and Social Care Committee, 2001)

Current research projects

  • Boys and their mothers: young men, masculinity and maternal relationships  - secondary analysis of archive data from 'Inventing Adulthoods' study at London South Bank University (pilot study, 2007 - )
