As Head of Department of Social Work at the Open University, Professor Dowling is responsible for the work of social work academics in England, Scotland and Wales. Each nation region has its own social work degree approved by the relevant Care Councils. There are currently over 1400 students registered on the Diploma in Social Work and the BA social work degree. Representing 11.5% of all social work students trained in the UK.
