In Our Own Words: Stories of Croydon’s Day Centres launched

On 28th May the culminating exhibition of the History of Day Centres project was launched at Museum of Croydon.

The In Our Own Words exhibition is the culmination of the History of Day Centres project and offers just a small taste of the 70 interviews conducted and over 200 photographs collected.

The exhibition was developed collaboratively with people with learning disabilities and, as the title suggests, is almost entirely ‘in their own words’. Through objects, images and audio clips emerges a fascinating story of people with learning disabilities including memories of industrial work, of delivering newspapers, dancing at discos and running for the England athletics team.
