All research staff and students in IET are members of our research group, Computers And Learning Research Group (CALRG); other staff from across the university are also welcome to take part. The friendly group was founded in 1978 and remains active, holding regular events that include an annual conference; seminars from internal and external speakers; a reading and discussion group; internal-focused ‘building knowledge’ sessions to share our research and skills with each other; and also a monthly coffee-and-cake morning.
Our researchers also work together in research groupings more widely across the University. Our work within the Centre for Education and Educational Technology (CREET) brings together a diverse, multi-disciplinary group of researchers engaged in broadly-based programmes of research into education, educational technology and allied fields of enquiry, mainly drawing researchers from IET and from the Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies (WELS). We also work as part of the Open Technology-Enhanced Learning research area (OpenTEL), which brings together researchers from across the entire university with an interest in innovations in teaching, learning and assessment, advancing the OU's mission to make high-quality education accessible to all.
