About the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning-CASTL
CASTL represents a major initiative of The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The CASTL Program seeks to support the development of a scholarship of teaching and learning that:
- fosters significant, long-lasting learning for all students;
- enhances the practice and profession of teaching,
- brings to faculty members' work as teachers the recognition and reward afforded to other forms of scholarly work
About IET's contribution
In 2005 IET (recognised for its longstanding and pre-eminent systematic evaluation of teaching and learning - the technology of education - and international status in HE research, HE Teaching and Learning publications and journal) was invited to be a CASTL international partner, and in 2009 to extend the partnership to 2011
The IET team has made significant contributions to CASTL projects, collaborations and annual team symposia, and has given plenary and panel papers at all International Scholarship of Teaching and Learning conferences, both those of the International Society for SoTL and London SoTL. The IET CASTL team were instrumental in setting up and publishing the first two ISSOTL international Special Interest Groups for Teaching and Learning History in HE and for the Humanities.
Primary aims:
- to expand, translate and disseminate the US model of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning to an international audience
- to build up a OU Scholarship of Teaching and Learning community
- to bring OU Scholarship of Teaching and Learning into national and international SoTL
