Abstract
Valérie Amato, an OU MSc in Development Management alumna and an external consultant advising academia, businesses and international NGOs on stakeholder engagement, will highlight emerging and future models of multi-stakeholder collaboration and partnerships required for the effective delivery of the new Global Goals for Sustainable Development. She will draw on her own research findings on NGO-business collaboration, the insights she has recently gained from senior leaders representing various sectors, and will also look at case studies and key innovative trends and initiatives in this field.

Looking at the origins and evolution of multi-stakeholder engagement, and the complexity of the current development landscape, she will argue that whilst the case for cross- boundary collaboration has now become even stronger, there are still too few success stories being shared to inspire and accelerate learning. She will highlight the key barriers and challenges that still remain and need to be overcome – all calling for an urgent rethink of the way international development actors should work together and mobilise and align resources towards the new ambitious goals. After exploring innovative models of multi-stakeholder engagement, she will conclude by showing the relevance of systems thinking and complexity science to effective collective learning and action for sustainable development.
