The Open University is recruiting for fully-funded PhD opportunities in the social sciences. Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership (GUDTP) is being delivered by a partnership between Oxford University, The Open University and Brunel University and features fully-funded part-time and full-time PhD opportunities.

The partnership builds on the recognised research and doctoral training strengths of all three institutions. In The Open University, subjects covered are:

  • Citizenship
  • Development Policy and Practice
  • Geography
  • Security
  • Innovation in Learning
  • Health and Wellbeing

Professor Steve Pile, Associate Director of the GUDTP at The Open University, said: “The social sciences cover a huge and important area of work that can make a real difference to our world and the societies within it. The Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership represents a significant opportunity for anyone wanting to focus on a social sciences area for academic or professional reasons to study with three extremely well-recognised universities in this field. We very much welcome applications to this programme from candidates and look forward to supporting students to undertake high-quality studies in their chosen field.”

The GUDTP is committed to funding the very best applicants and to opening access to educational and the opportunities it brings. Therefore, while a masters or equivalent experience is desirable, candidates with an excellent undergraduate degree in a relevant subject will also be considered.

The deadline for applications is 5pm (GMT) on 19 January 2018.

For more information about eligibility, the different training pathways and how to apply, see the Grand Union DTP website.
